Our district is a middle class Italian, Irish and Jewish-American community. Some places are wealthier than others. Howard Beach and Forest Hills Gardens are the envy of the community, but the more modest blue-collar liberals live in attached, semi-attached, or multifamily homes in Middle Village, Glendale, Maspeth, Woodhaven, and Ozone Park (where I’m from). We are good people; defending Clinton when he was being impeached, welcomed his wife with open arms when she came to ask to be our representive in Washington. We bore the brunt of the September 11th attacks, lost family, friends, neighbors by the handfuls. We are anti-war, pro-choice, homosexuality doesn’t bother us, Bush is a war criminal (even if he wasn’t four years ago), guns are the tools of the devil, and those crazy Christian nutzos down South are a threat to our nation.

John McCain will be the 44th President of the United States, mark my words, it’ll happen, and when it does, he’ll have no one else to thank but the far left American voter. They handed the White House to the Republicans in 2000, they helped them again in 2004, they’ll do it again. The Suicide [...]

I’m a partisan. I don’t call myself a Democrat, that’s a party not an ideology, but I support that party 99.9% of the time. I call myself a liberal progressive with the occasional maverick streak. I’m partisan, I believe we can’t police the world, occupy foreign lands, and support dictatorships. I believe in marriage equality, [...]

One year before what could be what may be the most important election in American history, the people of the United States of America are faced with the real possibility their next leader, and the next leader of the world’s only superpower, may very well be a woman. A woman in charge is not necessarily [...]

The right wing of America enjoys winning their victories by attacking those on the left. You’ve heard their talking points; The lefties want America to be defeated because they hate it. They want soldiers to die because they hate them, and so on. It’s the simplistic way the right wing wins, inspire fear and hatred [...]

I’ve been hearing a lot about how much better the federal response to the wildfires has been compared to Hurricane Katrina. Yes, it would appear FEMA and the administration got it right for once, but perhaps we shouldn’t be patting the President and his men on his back just yet. There are big differences between [...]

“Who Remembers the Armenians?” Those words were uttered by Adolf Hitler at the dawn of World War II. Hitler was asked by his generals what he thought the world would say if they killed everyone who got in their way during the 1939 invasion of Poland. There’s a thin line between “atrocity” and “massacre” and [...]

Levittown, the suburban utopia on Long Island, turns 60 next month. Levittown was the brainchild of it’s namesake, William Levitt, a real-estate developer who envisioned a community where you don’t have to be rich to have land for your kids to play, and schools with playgrounds, football fields and parking lots. His first experiment in [...]

On December 16, 1773, a group of Americans, fed up with being bossed around by a government 4,000 miles away that they had no say in, decided to engage in a defiant act of protest that would shock the authoritarian-dominated world. They decided to board a ship in Boston Harbor and throw its contents, 90,000 [...]

Who will carry North Carolina in 2008…Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, maybe both if what the state legislature is proposing comes true. North Carolina looks to become the third state, after Maine and Nebraska, to award their electoral votes by who carries each congressional district. The plan, much like the case of Maine and Nebraska, two [...]
