A lot has happened in the WWE since I
last got behind the keyboard to look over moments ago. There
was some roster shuffling, some new gimmicks, some new wrestlers,
and more. So, this week I am going to give my feelings on
many of the new goings on in the WWE today.
The Radicalz do Good:
Who’da thunk it? Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero sit atop
the wrestling heap as the champions of the world. I certainly
didn’t think I’d see Eddie or Benoit as champion period, let
alone at the same time. If this means a focus on pure wrestling
and away from cornball storylines then I am all for it; I
don’t think that storylines should go away, just ones involving
necrophilia or Mark Henry.
“The Draft”:
This was, in a lot of ways, a big disappointment. Nothing
huge was shaken up and the big changes were rectified within
twelve hours. The good points are that Shelton Benjamin has
his singles push, the lacking Smackdown tag team division
has some new life, and some new gimmicks have surfaced as
a result of the trades. The bad news is it is basically the
same shows they were before, and now Raw is still the “A”
show leaving Smackdown at a junior varsity level. I will get
into the specifics of all of this later.
Shelton Benjamin:
The Internet had reported that the WWE saw a lot in Shelton,
who I originally called “the WWE’s answer to Todd Bridges.”
Stories stated that Benjamin would ultimately become a singles
star as he was more gifted in the ring and on the mic than
his World’s Greatest Tag Team partner, Charlie Haas. I think
whoever reported that was right on the money. He has shown
great mic work, not only with the APA parody before the trade,
but his work with Triple H and company afterwards. In the
ring he stood toe to toe with one of the best in the business
(when he wants to be), and all they need to do is make him
a little less generic and give him a good finishing move,
and he is set for the big time.
Rene Dupre:
When I first saw him debut on Raw, I saw quite a bit of potential,
loads of it in fact. He was only 19 at the time. Sylvan Grenier
was certainly not in his league. Rob Conway was a better fit,
but it seemed like Rene was meant for bigger and better things.
This trade to Smackdown seems to be the beginning. He has
a “new” gimmick as the French Phenom (he used it in OVW) and
is debuting a new interview segment, the Café du Rene. He
seems to have the mic and ring skills to go a long way.
Bradshaw:
This gimmick is awesome. They have said that the gimmicks
that get the most over are the ones that are closest to the
men playing them. This has been proven with Stone Cold Steve
Austin and John Cena to name a few. This is again the case
with Bradshaw. This character seems pretty close to his real
personality. There is no reason this gimmick should not get
over…Except for the fact that it’s BRADSHAW. He gives one
move wonders a bad name. You can dress a piece of shit up
in Armani, but it is still a piece of shit. I love the gimmick;
I hate the wrestler doing the gimmick.
Brock Lesnar’s Departure:
I never made it a secret that Brock Lesnar was one of my favorite
WWE wrestlers. The fact that he is leaving, however, does
not upset me that much. If he was not passionate about putting
on a great show night in and night out, then I think he should
leave. I will miss his potential to put on great matches,
but I won’t miss a lackluster Lesnar. Besides, he’ll be back.
Euegene Dinsmore:
I LOVE THIS GIMMICK!!! I think a lot of people could find
it offensive. I find it funny and believe it could work perfectly.
If he plays the goofball, er excuse me special person outside
the ring, and absolutely kicks ass inside the ring it could
be great. It is really the only way it could work. The most
important thing is that Eugene has had people talking. Fans
have not been talking about something new and exciting in
a long time. I LOVE IT!!!
That’s it for now, but I’m sure I left
SOMEthing out that you want to talk about. If
you have any comments or opinions you can spin
